Yandex says joins antimonopoly case against Apple for pay options

MOSCOW, Jan 12 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex has joined an antimonopoly case against Apple over a ban to inform buyers of App Store applications about alternative means of payment, the company said on Wednesday in a statement.

“We have decided to take part in the action because the decision on the case can influence the users and developers immensely. We believe that the users should have an opportunity to learn about different means of payment and make purchases inside applications via any convenient method,” Yandex said.

If developers can inform about the means of payment inside the application, it will improve the user experience and open new opportunities to develop the market of mobile applications, the company said.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service opened a case against Apple in October 2021 because of its ban to inform buyers of applications in App Store about alternative means of payment and can impose a turnover-based fine on the U.S. company.
